sparkling margarita with lypo-spheric vitamin c

Lypo-C Sparkling Margarita Recipe

Try this less-bad-for-you sparkling margarita, spiked with a packet of Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C.

Research has provided evidence that teetotaling may not be the best for long-term health. Multiple studies indicate that people who habitually consume a small amount of alcohol tend to live longer. We won’t try to pretend to know why that is. We’re just going to share a well-researched way to consume a small amount of alcohol in the least detrimental way possible.

According to Dr. Will Cole, one of the foremost functional medicine practitioners and author of numerous books on science-backed healthy lifestyle modifications, it’s a good idea to limit alcohol consumption to one ounce of a spirit at a time.

Tequila is made with the blue agave plant that grows in certain regions of Mexico. The plant can support health in numerous ways, but those benefits are removed during the distillation process. That means, regardless of all the clickbait articles claiming “X reasons tequila is good for you,” real health professionals still recommend limiting intake. Repeat: you do not get blue agave health benefits by drinking tequila.

However, health professionals who live in the real world where people have vices, recommend drinking tequila if you are going to drink alcohol. That’s because tequila has a lower sugar content. And they recommend good tequila that’s pure and free of any nasty substances.

A traditional margarita includes triple sec, which means added sugar. We replaced the orange-flavored liqueur with fresh-squeezed orange juice. Instead of margarita salt, we used the purest salt readily available at most grocery stores; Himalayan pink salt. It’s optional, but does provide an essential electrolyte. Alcohol, when consumed with significant water, can deplete sodium in the blood.

To offset the tartness of the citrus-heavy drink, we added a meager amount of raw honey. Keeping the honey raw enables it to maintain its antioxidants, making a more nutritious sweetener.

And, since alcohol is known to dehydrate, a half-cup of carbonated water is included in the margarita. We used plain water, but feel free to experiment with various essences. Lime, coconut, or orange would be delicious.

Because alcohol consumption can deplete antioxidants, we spiked the last ounce of the sparkling margarita with a packet of Lypo-Spheric® Vitamin C.
